Steve Reinemund is Executive in Residence at Wake Forest University School of Business. Previously, Steve served as Dean of Business from July 2008 until June 2014.
During his tenure as Dean, the School transformed the approach to business education by integrating the undergraduate and graduate faculties, focusing on career development, emphasizing leadership and ethics, championing diversity, and raising the level of excellence in teaching.
Under Steve’s leadership, $74 million was raised for the School of Business and student enrollment increased 50%. Farrell Hall, the new business school building, was designed and completed. A building was also constructed for the Charlotte campus.
Steve retired from PepsiCo as Chairman in 2007. During his CEO tenure from 2001-2006, revenue grew by $9 billion, net income rose 70%, and PepsiCo’s market cap exceeded $100 billion for the first time. Throughout his 23 years of service at PepsiCo, Steve took the company to new levels of success through what Businessweek magazine called “constant innovation and savvy moves.” He was twice named to Barron’s “World’s Most Respected CEO List” and was named to Businessweek’s Top 25 “Managers of the Year” in 2002 and 2005. Steve left a legacy marked by a strong management team, a commitment to health and wellness, diversity and inclusion, and values-based leadership.
Steve is currently a member of the board of directors of Chick-fil-A, ExxonMobil, Marriott, and Walmart. He served on the board of directors of American Express from 2007 to 2015. Also, Steve serves on the Board of Directors at USNA Foundation and Wake Forest University Board of Trustees.
From 2005 to 2007, Steve was chairman of the National Minority Supplier Development Council. He served on the National Advisory Board of The Salvation Army for nine years and Chaired the board for three years. Steve also served on the board of the National Council of La Raza from 1992 to 2001 and was chairman of its Corporate Board of Advisors from 1992 to 1996.
Steve graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1970 and served five years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. He received his MBA from the University of Virginia and has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees by Johnson and Wales University and Bryant University. Steve and his wife, Gail, have been married for 41 years and have four children and four granddaughters.
